Development Institute in collaboration with the Thessaly Development
Institute, the University of Thessaly, the Agricultural University of
Athens, the University of Macedonia, the American Farm School and the
Hellenic Diabetes Association, organize the 1st BALKAN CONFERENCE FOR
STEVIA, titled: «STEVIA – PRODUCTION – SUPPLY – PHARMACEUTICAL QUALITIES».
The conference will be held on 14-15-16 of February 2014 at the hall
"Ioannis Kordatos” of the University of Thessaly, in the city of Volos,
Greece. Greece, Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania,
Serbia, Slovenia and Turkey will take part in the conference.
The 1st BALKAN CONFERENCE FOR STEVIA is held under the auspices of the: 1) Greek Ministry of Development and Competitiveness 2) Greek Ministry of Health 3) Region of Thessaly 4) Municipalityof Volos 5) Greek-Turkish Chamber of Commerce 6) Greek-Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry

support localcommunitiesandeconomiesin the regionswhereit operates.
Pelion Development Institute has extensive experience in the field of
Stevia’s cultivation since the last 6 years is closely collaborating
with professors of the University of Thessaly in an experimental stage
and has produced the first Stevia products in Greece under the name
PELION STEVIA (http://www.pelionstevia.com/). It should be noted that cultivation of Stevia in Europe has been authorized by the European Union since December of 2011.
The arrival of the participants in the city of Volos and their
settlement to the hotel rooms will take place on Friday 14 of February.
On Saturday 15 of February at
9:30 in the morning the Conference will open with greetings from
the attending Ministers followed by speeches from specialized
scientists. The exact program of the Conference will be announced in the
near future. Finally, on Sunday 16 of February a trip in the broader
area of Pelion will take place.
The Conference is divided in 3 thematic sections : Section 1: Cultivation-Production
Subjects related to the production of seedlings and cultivation
prospects as well as procedures pertaining to the production. Section 2: Cost effectiveness-Marketing Subjects related to cost effectiveness and marketing perspectives. Section 3: Qualities-Use-Nutrition Subjects related to the use of Stevia, its pharmaceutical qualities, and its importance in nutrition.
